Benefits of Not Getting Your Wisdom Teeth Extracted

It seems almost as if it is a rite of passage to have your wisdom teeth pulled. It happens right around the end of teenage years and at the beginning of adulthood. This procedure is necessary for many people, but not all people actually need to have their wisdom teeth pulled.

In fact, it can be good for some people to not have them pulled. If you aren’t sure if you need to have your wisdom teeth pulled or not, ask your oral surgeon what they would recommend.

GOOD REASONS TO NOT HAVE YOUR WISDOM TEETH PULLED WHEN IT ISN'T NECESSARY

If you are one of the lucky few who has wisdom teeth come in properly, it may be in your best interest to keep your wisdom teeth and not have them extracted. This helps to hold your front teeth in place, as your teeth cannot shift forward with the extra pressure from the wisdom teeth behind them.

Most people do not have the spare room in the back of their jaw to have their wisdom teeth come in straight. However, if you are one of the people who does, it is best to keep an eye on them as they come in. It is common that these teeth succumb to decay sooner than others in the mouth since they are so far back in the mouth. However, with proper care and maintenance, most of the time, this can be avoided as well.

Keeping your wisdom teeth is a viable option if they erupt fully into the right spot and don’t cause pressure and pain on the surrounding teeth. Talk with your oral surgeon and get their opinion about what they think is best for your wisdom teeth. They can show you on your x-rays what direction your wisdom teeth are facing if they haven’t erupted yet, when you two talk.
