The Connection Between Unhealthy Teeth and Ringing in Your Ears

If you have ever suffered from tinnitus-the constant ringing in your ears-you know how maddening the condition can be. Although it differs in severity from person to person, most people with this condition eventually adjust and carry on life as normal while having the constant ringing in the background.

However, you may not need to do this. Depending on the cause of your tinnitus, it may be possible to treat the condition-and let you enjoy blissful silence once again.

One cause of tinnitus is unhealthy teeth. If you have an infection in a tooth or even in the surrounding tissue, it could actually be contributing to your tinnitus.

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN TINNITUS AND YOUR ORAL HEALTH

Here’s the deal: as you no doubt know, many areas of your body affect each other in terms of how well each area is able to carry out its day to day activities. When you have an infected tooth-or even an infection in the oral cavity-one result of this can be some slight swelling of tissue in the surrounding area.

Depending on a number of factors such as the location of the infected tooth, the severity of the situation, and other matters, it is possible that the swelling associated with the infection could be causing tissue to press against nerves running to and from the ears. This pressure, in turn, can be interpreted by your brain as noise: hence the tinnitus.

What’s more, it does not always have to be a bad infection for this to become an issue. Some people have no idea that they have an issue with a tooth until their ears start ringing.
