To Our Valued Patients,

As this newest challenge continues to unfold with COVID-19(Coronavirus), we wanted to give you an update. First, we are currently maintaining our regular schedule. As of now, the Arizona Department of Health Services is not recommending closure or modification. We will continue to closely monitor information from the CDC and AZDHS and follow their recommendations. We will keep you up to date on any changes we may have to make via emails, our website, and social media.

Second, we would like to give you some insight into our practices to keep our team and patient family safe and comfortable. Dentistry is uniquely positioned to protect our team and patients. On a daily basis, we practice ‘Universal Precautions.’ This means we ALWAYS assume that every patient may be carrying a contagious, dangerous disease and we follow strict guidelines to prevent the transmission of any potential disease, including Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, HIV, AND COVID-19(Coronavirus). This has been standard of care and regulated by the Centers for Disease Control since the 1980s with the AIDS
epidemic.

These measures include:
1. Strict hand hygiene protocols.
2. Use of single use disposable protective equipment and barriers.
3. Thorough disinfection of exposed or potentially exposed surfaces after every patient visit.
4. Disinfection and high-heat steam sterilization of instruments. Routine monitoring of sterilization verification.
5. Continual education on infection control techniques.

In addition to these mandated measures, we have also implemented:
1. Disinfection of common area surfaces every 30 minutes.
2. Availability of hand sanitizer in common areas.
3. Screening everyone who enters based on CDC recommendations.
4. Pre-procedural mouth rinse.

We are happy to address any concerns you may have. We will continue to care for our patient family during this time following all best practices and will monitor CDC guidelines for any new recommendations.

Thank you for being a part of our family. Thank you for allowing us to care for you and your family. Please know we are here to support you and help you in any way that we can.

In good health,

Dental Filling Surprise, AZ

Composite Fillings at Surprise Smiles in Surprise, AZ
Remember when you forgot to brush your teeth that evening, or maybe you put it off because you were ready to go to bed early and didn’t want to wake yourself up by brushing? The next day you didn’t floss because you were running late for work and you flossed a few days ago. Then that trend continued for several weeks and now you are in our office and you learn you need a filling! It happens to everyone at some point. Tooth decay is a hard thing to combat and it’s really easy to lose focus on the fight against it when it stretches out over the span of your whole life. Fortunately, we at Surprise Smiles have a number of solutions for you to help your mouth return to its normal, healthy state.

Composite Fillings

Composite, or tooth colored fillings, are made out of a mixture of plastic, glass, and resin that is carefully mixed to match the exact color of your tooth. Composite fillings are almost impossible to spot in your mouth and allow us to leave more of the healthy tooth in place than any other filling option.

Composite starts as a mixture that we craft specially to match your teeth and is applied in a clay-like state to your tooth. This is the same material that we use to do dental bonding in order to fix cracks and chips in your teeth. Once we have the mixture in place and molded properly we set it permanently in place using a UV light.

Amalgam

These are the stereotypical fillings that many people think of when fillings are mentioned. Silver or metallic in color, amalgam fillings offer a durable and long lasting solution for fillings in the molars that need to be able to withstand lots of bite pressure. Amalgam fillings require a large amount of the tooth to be drilled in order to be successful.

Gold Inlays and Onlays

Gold is a material that has been used in dental restoration procedures for a long time. Gold not only feels just like your natural tooth, it most closely matches natural teeth in density and strength. This makes gold a fabulous option to use to restore teeth. Many people enjoy the beautiful aesthetic that gold offers, accenting the smile nicely.

Gold can be used to place in fillings (inlays) within teeth or can be used to cap a tooth with a crown (onlay). The process of having a gold restoration place will usually require an extra trip to our office as the restoration will need to be crafted over a period of days or weeks in our dental lab.

How to Avoid Cavities

Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day is the best way to avoid tooth decay. One of the most overlooked aspects of ensuring your mouth stays healthy is making a visit to see us at least twice a year. When you come in to see us we can give you teeth a thorough cleaning, making sure to hit all the spots that you routinely miss, and make you aware of any issues that might become a problem in the future.

Please call us today at (602) 842-4864 to schedule an appointment.
