How to Make Sure Your Oral Surgery Recovery Goes Smoothly

Posted on 12/23/2021 by Candice
How to Make Sure Your Oral Surgery Recovery Goes SmoothlyOur dentists define oral surgery as any surgical procedure made in the jaw, the mouth, or both. Some frequent types of oral surgery include wisdom teeth removal, corrective jaw procedures, and surgeries specialized in facial trauma. Not everyone will need oral surgery after going to our offices. But, if our professionals determine you require it, you need to make sure your recovery goes well to avoid any complications. Here are some of the things you can do to make sure your oral surgery recovery goes smoothly.

Rest The Day After

Even if oral surgery seems more manageable than other types of surgery, you still need to rest. The best way to do it is to lie in bed with pillows under your head. That way, you will reduce the inflammation of your face, since this helps you achieve proper blood circulation. Besides, you will decrease any excessive bleeding you might have.

Remember to Clean Your Mouth

It is essential to keep a clean mouth to avoid the risk of infection. However, our dentists will probably recommend that you do not brush your teeth the first day after the surgery. Even so, a way to wash your mouth is by rising a few times throughout the day with salt water, principally after eating.

Eat Liquid Or Soft Foods

Soft foods involve yogurt, mashed potatoes, soups, smoothies, or milkshakes. We recommend you to keep a soft food diet for one day or two after the oral surgery. One of the reasons behind this is that soft food is easier to chew. On the other side, solid food may increase the risk of infection because the particles can get inside your sutures or your wound. Please visit our offices for professional advice on your care after oral surgery.
