If you have hit your jaw after a crash, it's crucial to monitor your symptoms carefully. What Happens During a Car Accident?Car accidents are violent, traumatic events and can result in injuries to different parts of your body, including your jaw. Because of the impact, many times there is whiplash, where your head is thrown back and forth at any rate of speed. This is not a movement that is normal, and even a fender bender or an accident where someone rear ends you at a traffic light can have lasting consequences on the temporomandibular joints. What if I Have Jaw Pain After a Car AccidentThe most apparent reason for pain following a car accident is if you hit your jaw against a dashboard or the side of the car. This can affect the temporomandibular joints that connect the jawbone to the skull. A car accident can cause the ligaments in the TMJ to stretch or tear due to the forces moving your head.
